Darcy Hurley still in Denial

I got a letter from Darcy Hurley the other day. Amazing. I had sent him a post card a month ago saying it was still OK to write to me; but to just please drop the charade of needing money to get out. And what does he do? Spends half the letter still in denial about his lying to me. He still makes reference to that preposterous claim about being left in prison because of having no exit money. He tells me in the letter that we should be move on and not focus on the past and all that blather. I will write him back and will make no mention of it UNLESS he starts asking for money again.

Among other things he claims the “computer” shows the wrong parole date:

My first parole board is 9-23-2010 and the second is 3-7-2011. The judge investigated and found that under my sentencing statute, he could not reduce my sentence until I’ve served 25 years. 25 years will be 9-23-2010 and I was told I could re-apply and / or the Parole board could give me clemency and let me out….blah blah blah…

Oh now he blames on the judge who once again moved the date. At least here he’s taking the focus off the “I need money to get out” lie. The two dates on the website are 2-25-2010 and 8-9-2010. The later date is more like it since that would be the 25 year mark (the website shows he was admitted on 8/19/85). Anyway Darcy couldn’t resist getting in a few swipes at “Tom” and calling him a liar. He doesn’t know he’s on the internet and other people have come forward to support the fact that Darcy is lying.

Will Darcy Hurley get out Early?

I have another person besides Darcy Hurley I write to in the Arizona Prison System. Unlike Darcy Dale Hurley, this one provides reliable information and has never asked me for any money. I don’t reveal names (expect for that scamming Darcy Hurley) so I will call this one “Tom”. Tom has been the one I have run a lot of Darcy’s stuff by including his preposterous travel money story and his ridiculous transfer form. I can usually count on Tom to give me the straight scoop.

Anyway, Tom tells me there is a piece of legislation headed for the Governor’s desk that will require the state to release about 19,000 prisoners. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, Arizona had about 39,000 prisoners in mid 2008 (about 1 year ago). That means they would be releasing nearly half of the prison population! Tom thinks he stands a good chance of being released if this is signed off Governor Brewer. Tom’s earliest release date is mid 2010; very similar to Darcy Hurley’s earliest possible parole date.

The governor’s desk probably has a lot of budget management measures on it right now. I don’t know the story behind this bill and have asked Tom for a bill number. Nor do I know if this will even go through. I know this has to do with fiscal measures and saving money at the state level. However, that still sounds like a lot of prisoners to let loose.

Presumably they will be focusing on low risk prisoners and prisoners whose release time is coming up soon anyway. It’s that second part that makes we wonder if Darcy Hurley will be allowed to fly the coup if this bill passes. His earliest parole date is listed as next February (2010). I will be watching this closely and try to get more information. If anyone has any information on this bill please post it in comments.

Darcy Hurley and his Phony Proof

I forgot to mention that back in January, Darcy Hurley send me “proof” that the only thing holding him in there was no money in his account. His so-called proof was a joke. It was an Arizona Prison Transfer form filled in red pen with handwriting that looked a lot like Darcy Dale Hurley’s! The term “ absolute release” was hand written in. In fact there was a lot of written in phoniness. See for yourself!

He disguised it a bit but it was pretty easy to see. And another inmate who is also in the Arizona system told me that is not what the form is used for. What a scam. I wrote him back and told him in just a few short words that I didn’t believe him and that form was filled in by him. I have not heard back from Darcy Hurley since. Guess maybe he’s moved on to scamming someone else. Maybe I will drop him a short line about that phony picture!

Darcy Dale Hurley – Even his Photo is Phony!

I have not updated this blog in awhile. Quite frankly, I have more important things to do with my time. But today I came to check the blog and found three things.

1 – The link to his prison record was updated and it didn’t work (Fixed)

2 – There is a newer photo of him on the new updated prison record page (Fixed)

3 – That prior photo of him on my About page wasn’t even him!

That is according to one of the commenters on the About page. And frankly I have no reason to doubt the commenter when it comes to Darcy Hurley. That other photo doesn’t even look like him; even if you allow for the fact that it might be an older photo. The old photo can be viewed on the link titled “Darcy Hurley’s Prisoner Ad”. Unfortunately I have no control over that site but I will see if I can find an email contact there to let them know they have a phony photo. Which leads me to ask again: Is anything real about Darcy Hurley?

Other than the photo and a different URL, there is nothing new on Darcy Dale Hurley’s prisoner record. No sign of pending release, no sign of parole any time before February 2010. Thanks to the commenters and I will make it point to keep updating this blog.

Darcy Hurley wants Honesty

Well here we go again! I sent Darcy a little note just after the New Year (and I do mean little). It was a two sentence note just asking if he was still in there – no apologies, no excuses for not writing, just that question and wondering why I didn’t get a call from him on 12/30. This resulted in a response which I received yesterday. As I predicted, he used the ‘money excuse’ for not getting out.

Why I have not yet be released is that I did not have the full amount on my account for either a plane or bus ticket.

Was I right or what? He also planted this gem: He wants me to be honest. So I was! I sent him back a blistering letter telling him that I just don’t believe his story. And also that I sent his story (minus his name) to another prisoner in the Arizona system and he concurred with me; it’s a scam. This other prisoner who is actually scheduled for release next year, knows nothing about this so-called policy of the prison that the prisoner being discharged must have travel money in the account. I told Darcy Hurley about this other prisoner. I also told Darcy he needs to send me some evidence of his claims by giving me the name of a prison official I can talk to.

According to him, he’s just sitting in prison now waiting for the money. As soon as the money arrives in his account, they will magically discharge him. Yeah right. If he does provide me with someone to contact and it turns out he is telling the truth, then I will owe him an apology. Otherwise, it’s scam business as usual for Darcy Dale Hurley.

Was I right or what? December 30th came and went and no word from Darcy Hurley. December 30th was the 2nd date he was supposed to be released from prison by the court; something that is apparently off record. I know that rather than off record, it’s just fabricated. This was the case on August 1 and now again December 30th. If he got out, he should have called me as he said he was going to do. I wonder what the excuse will be this time? I can’t wait to find out. I will wait a week or two and then drop him a line to see if he bites again. Then he will have a hard time explaining away his 2nd attempt to extract money from me. I can hear it now: “The judge changed his mind again” or “I stayed in because I didn’t have any money”.

Another Empty Letter from Darcy Hurley

I received a new letter yesterday from Darcy Hurley which somehow did not surprise me. I still have no intention of answering his 10/26 letter and I probably won’t answer this one either. As I expected, it was a short letter full of fluff. There was nothing in there showing me the real Darcy Hurley. Of course he once again asked for travel money. He tells me he got $90 for the television set he bought with my money but that won’t be enough. Oh dear, well he better make it last because there won’t be any more!

And he tells me he has had trouble getting a hold of me via the phone. A few weeks ago, I canceled my account with the Correctional Billing system after I found an option to do that and get a refund. So I suspect he can’t call due to that reason. Oh yeah, and he says he hasn’t heard from me. He blames that on the prison system for losing a piece of mail. No Darcy Dale Hurley, no mail has been lost; I just haven’t answered!

Now on his parole update: there is an update on his prison record (linked on the side bar). It just shows under Parole Classification that there was some action on 12/4/08. But the key thing there is an entry for next year. The next review date is 12/4/2009. Now how about that? If he is getting out on 12/30/08, the parole people apparently don’t know about it. Still smells like a scam to me.

Review Date Coming Up

I still have not answered his most recent letter which was dated 10/26/08. Now more than a month has gone by and he must be wondering by now what is going on. Or maybe he isn’t wondering at all. He knows this is a scam and even he knows he is probably stretching his luck asking me for travel money again after that last fiasco. I still can’t seem to get up the energy to write him another letter. As I blogged last time, either I write back with the usual fluff or I call him on the carpet. Neither option seems worthy of my time.

That aside, there is an event coming up. December 2, 2008 is the date of his next parole hearing according to his prison record. (see the link on the side bar). That’s this coming Tuesday so I will be checking back toward the end of next week to see what it shows if anything. Last year’s parole hearing shows no real action, only that it occurred and that the 2008 date was scheduled. So it will be interesting to see if they roll to another date in 2009. If so that might give me something to write him about. It might go something like this. Hey I see you still have another year for parole. What was that about getting out on 12/30/08? Scam!

Darcy Hurley What to Do?

I have not answered Darcy Hurley’s latest letter which I got about two weeks ago. It’s sitting at home in a file while I decide what to do about it. There are 3 possible courses of action at this point.

I could write back with the usual flare and small talk. And continue to play this game. And of course I would get back another regurgitation of the letter. Or, I could write a letter explaining that I don’t believe him and am not buying into his routine. That I will under no circumstances send him any more money and will certainly not open my house to him.

Or (and I am leaning in this direction so far) I could just ignore him. Let the letter go unanswered. It doesn’t deserve my time any more. He would of course write another letter or call on the phone. For a different reason altogether apart from Darcy Dale Hurley, I am going to change my phone number and of course it will be unlisted. And of course I will not tell him what it is.

The last one will just leave him hanging. Just like he left me hanging back in July after he got my $400. Does he really think I am going to fall for that again? I have to admit I am torn between #2 and #3 (#1 seems to not be an option any longer). Sigh. I will have to sleep on it again.

Darcy Hurley a Blank Slate

I have received another letter from Darcy Dale Hurley since I last wrote an entry in this blog and it was the usual BS. More re-hashing of what I said and very little of his own content or ideas. His re-hashing usually takes the form of:

That’s great that you [insert thing I did or talked about here]. I’ll bet that will be really cool.

Yawn! I mean his letters are like reading back what I wrote. And of course there was the usual plug for money which he ain’t getting. Darcy Hurley is just a blank slate when it comes to Darcy Hurley. He’s like a void of a human being. Most prisoners, I can get a sense of where their heads are at after a few letters. Darcy is no different. The void of his own input tells me a lot. That there is really very little going on there. There certainly isn’t any self improvement going on. Other prisoners I write to do various things to improve themselves. This could be things like writing a blog, working a hobby, or getting involved with something outside. It can even be reflected in the jobs they do and the pride they take in doing them. Or in the books they read. In Darcy’s case, he doesn’t work; he just sits in a cell 24 x 7 and watches his TV paid for by yours truly. As far as I know, he doesn’t read. Now it would seem that if someone were in a cell, they would want a steady supply of reading material. But not Darcy Hurley!
